Background about this NATO Summit 2023 travel advisory.

About the Advisory

As a courtesy and service to all officials, delegates, media professionals, and other guests attending the NATO Summit 2023 in Vilnius, Lithuania, ICAN provides this travel advisory to promote informed and respectful engagement with the city’s historical sites.

The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) is a U.S.-based non-governmental organization committed to creating change for a better America, a more secure Israel, and a stronger U.S.-Israel alliance.

Our organization takes a keen interest in the issue of state-sponsored Holocaust denial and distortion, particularly when it originates from governments in countries where the Holocaust took place. We believe that the distortion of historical truth undermines the lessons we must learn from such atrocities, lessons that are crucial to preventing such events in the future.

As Israelis in America, we understand the importance of preserving the memory of the Holocaust, not only for the Jewish community but for humanity as a whole. We see the distortion of this history as an affront to the memory of the victims and a threat to the values of truth, justice, and human rights that we hold dear.

Through this travel advisory, we aim to raise awareness about these issues among attendees of the NATO Summit 2023 in Vilnius, Lithuania. We believe that by doing so, we can contribute to a more informed and respectful dialogue about these sensitive historical matters.
